Abstract

Wayang Tantri is one of Wayang arts which is still productive and creative in performing Wayang Kaca (glass wayang) in some scenes of their performance. The visual of the performance is the re?ection of light with the motif of forms and paterns of the traditional Balinese leather puppet(wayang kulit). The creation is conducted by I Wayan Wija by enriching the movements of wayang tetikesan adapted from Balinese leather puppet. The subject of the analysis is wayang kaca in the play of Wayang Tantri of I Wayan Wija’s Sang Aji Dharma Kepastu in Bali record. The aim of thispaper is to identify the form and movement of Wayang. The analysis is explored within local ideas in the form of the wayang. The data are collected through observation, interview, and document study to the video of the subject of the analysis which is more or less about 2 hours. The theory applied is Instrumental Aesthetics and Estetika Pedalangan. The result shows that wayang kaca is Dalang Wija’s thought on the manifestation of Dewa (God) which is re?ected in the form of light (dev) in the performance. The basic materials are created into various forms of Balinese wayang characterssuch as Barong, dewa-dewi, penari baris, etc. The tetikesan model applied in wayang kaca is adapted movements from traditional wayang comprising “gerak wantah” and “gerak maknawi.Keywords: Wayang Tantri, wayang Kaca, form, movement.

Abstract

Upcycle woven fabric is an innovation product applying upcycling concept produced by CV Tarum Bali. The eminence of this product is the using of natural dye which increases the selling value. This is interesting to be studied because of the uniqueness of color and motif of the product. The method applied in this study is qualitative. The samples are determined based on purposive sampling, while the data are collected from observation, interview, and documentation. The result shows that the natural dyes used for the upcycle are as follows: the leaves of mahogany tree for brown color; blackfrom the leaves of ketapang tree; yellow from the leaves of mango tree; red from the log of secang tree; indigo or blue from the leaves of tarum. The colors usually applied for upcycle woven fabric tend to be lightcolor which is not easily faded. The motif of the upcycle is usually the order of horizontal lines. The motif emerges from the crossing between lungsi yarn and rag strings. The motif arrangement of the upcycle is either the repetition of form, direction, sixe, or color which considers the composition, balance, and rythm. The motif of horizontal lines is compounded by the repetition of rythm and transition to reach formal balance. Abstract

This paper aims to explain the concept of the creation of avant-garde works inspired by the mythical fgure of Dewi Sri in Javanese society in the form of an illustrated fashion. The purpose is to introduce the mythical fgure of Dewi Sri in Java to the modern society. Dewi Sri is a character who is trusted in the Javanese people life. She is identifed with the goddess of rice, the goddess of wealth, the goddess of fertility and prosperity, the goddess of fame and success. She is believed to be able to provide long life, health and lots of children. She is the mother of life on earth. Avant-garde is one type of artwear or wasable-art focusing on an aesthetic value rather than a function. The research is conducted by collecting literature data and interviews. This study applies Paul Ricour’s Hermeneutic approach which is conducted through appreciation of symbols to the idea of ‘thinking of’ symbols. Ricour considers that hermeneutics is a way to explore hidden meanings in texts that appear to contain meaning, also an atempt to fght against “cultural distortion”, through semantics, re?ection, and existential or ontological.Keywords: Avant-Garde, Artwear, Dewi Sri.

Abstract

The motif of Batik Kawung is being used as aesthetic elements at Pullman Hotel Lobby in Central Jakarta. It is a part of interior design applied in not only cloth materials. The hotel lobby is a public sphere visited by heterogeneous guests from various social classes. This is a qualitative method with semiotic approach. The data are from informants regarding with batik, as well as from archive anddocuments. The collection of data is conducted through interview and observation. The result shows that there are some motifs of batik kawung that cannot be applied exactly as they are since they have their own symbolic meaning. Regarding this, designers designing interior design of Pullman Hotel Lobby should consider the knowledge.Keywords: symbolic, batik kawung, interior aesthetics elements, Pullman Hotel Jakarta Pusat

Abstract

2D Animation flm of Bali folktale “Bawang and Kesuna” tells about two sisters, Bawang and Kesuna. Bawang is a girl who is lazy, jealousy, and sly. Meanwhile, Kesuna is a kind, calm, honest, and hardworking girl. The folktale is from Sengkidu village, Karangasem. The paper is aimed to reveal the aesthetics of 2D “Bawang and Kesuna” flm approached by Djelantik Aesthetic theory. It discusses the form and structure, the mood, idea and message, as well as the presentation. The study applies qualitative method. The data are collected from interview and documentation of related literatures. The result shows that the form comprises illustration, typography, and colour, meanwhile the structure applies flm structure, namely shot, scene, and sequence. The mood shares village atmosphere giving traditional impression shown from the accessories of costumes and buildings. Abstract

In spite of its rapid modernization, South Korea is still having problems with gender issues in its socio-cultural life. The paper is aimed to reveal the reality of gender ideology in South Korea through a K-drama entitled “Because This Is My First Life”. It tells about the life of metropolis urban society. A drama or soap opera is the representation of reality in a life. The paper is a qualitative study applying discourse analysis to uncover the gender ideology in the story of the flm. The result showsthat the characters created in the story of the flm are submissive to the patriarchy values among the modernity of South Korea.Keywords : Representation, Gender ideology, Patriarchy, South Korea, K-drama

Abstract

The paper aims to analyze several works produced by “Sembilan Matahari” in applying visual elements of Angklung represented on video mapping in the certain performance either in domestic or foreign countries. The study is conducted trough preliminary, literature, and the analysis of the works performed. The data obtained are analyzed by using Richard E. Palmer’s hermeneutic. The study tries to interpret and signify the signs in the video mapping performance. The result shows that video mapping is one of new media arts which has its own atractiveness to the audience.
